Cannabis Laws in Washington

Is weed legal in Washington? Yes — recreational and medical cannabis are both legal here for adults 21+.

Washington was one of the first two states to legalize adult-use cannabis (Initiative 502, 2012), with licensed retail open to adults 21+. Adults can possess up to one ounce of flower plus limited amounts of concentrate and infused products, but notably home growing for recreational users remains illegal. Legislative efforts to allow personal cultivation have not passed.

Federally, cannabis is still a controlled substance nationwide — but that status is in flux. See where rescheduling stands →
