Cannabis Laws in Connecticut

Is weed legal in Connecticut? Yes — recreational and medical cannabis are both legal here for adults 21+.

Connecticut legalized adult-use cannabis in 2021 and began retail sales in January 2023; stores now serve adults 21+ statewide. Possession is limited to 1.5 ounces in public (up to 5 ounces stored securely at home), and home cultivation of up to 6 plants is permitted. The state directs a large share of excise revenue to social-equity programs.

Federally, cannabis is still a controlled substance nationwide — but that status is in flux. See where rescheduling stands →
