Cannabis Laws in Alaska

Is weed legal in Alaska? Yes — recreational and medical cannabis are both legal here for adults 21+.

Alaska legalized adult-use cannabis by ballot in 2014, and licensed retail stores are open to adults 21+. Adults may possess up to one ounce in public and grow up to six plants (no more than three mature) per person, kept secure and out of public view. The Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office regulates the licensed industry.

Federally, cannabis is still a controlled substance nationwide — but that status is in flux. See where rescheduling stands →
