Cannabis Laws in Kentucky
Is weed legal in Kentucky? Medical only — cannabis is legal for registered medical patients, but not for general adult use.
Kentucky's medical cannabis law took effect January 1, 2025, and the first dispensary sales began in December 2025. By mid-2026 roughly a dozen dispensaries were open and growing, though early supply shortages limited availability. Registered patients may possess up to a 30-day supply; there is no adult-use market and home cultivation is not allowed.
Federally, cannabis is still a controlled substance nationwide — but that status is in flux. See where rescheduling stands →
