Cannabis Laws in Hawaii
Is weed legal in Hawaii? Medical only — cannabis is legal for registered medical patients, but not for general adult use.
Hawaii allows medical cannabis only; recreational legalization has repeatedly failed in the legislature, including in 2024 and 2025, so adult-use remains illegal as of mid-2026. Registered patients with a 329 card can buy from licensed dispensaries, possess up to four ounces of usable cannabis, and cultivate a limited number of plants. Consumption is prohibited in all public places.
Federally, cannabis is still a controlled substance nationwide — but that status is in flux. See where rescheduling stands →
