What is Cultivar (Strain)?
A cultivar, commonly called a "strain," is a specific cultivated variety of cannabis with a distinct genetic profile, appearance, and aroma.
In the cannabis market, the terms "strain" and "cultivar" are used interchangeably to name varieties like OG Kush or Blue Dream. "Cultivar" is the more botanically accurate term, since each represents a deliberately bred plant lineage. Names are not standardized across producers, so the same name can vary in genetics and chemistry from one grower to another.
